Katy Texas started out as the hunting ground for the Karankawa Indian tribes. Katy Texas was home to great herds of buffalo and big flocks of wild ducks, geese, sand hill and whooping cranes, and other game birds, longhorn cattle, deer, and wolves.

In 1872 the first community in Katy was settled, known as Cane Island. Then in 1895 the Town site of Katy Texas was laid out by J. O. Thomas, L. C. Luckel, and R. M. Cash. It is said to be named Katy because of the M.K.T. Railroad which runs through Katy. The city of Katy was finally incorporated in 1945. Katy Texas was a major player as a rice farming and agricultural center, a rail hub, and one of the largest gas fields in Texas. Katy also developed into a traditional family style community.
